Caring Together  Donates $90,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research

The article below first appeared in the Times Union on Thursday, April 10, 2008.  Used by permission of the Times Union.

CT Group photoCaring Together, a Capital Region ovarian cancer support group, recently donated $90,000 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund from its sixth annual Teal Ribbon Run/Walk.

The donation was made in memory of Laura Kerzic of Niskayuna, a member of Caring Together who worked to raise awareness of ovarian cancer during her 4-year battle with the disease.  Kerzic died in June [2007] at age 48.

Caring Together also recognized the contributions of Linda DeBrita of Scotia, a member of Caring Together who died March 12, 2008 at age 53.  In the past two years, DeBrita recorded two benefit CDs and donated the $17,500 proceeds to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

The Caring Together support group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at Gilda’s Club in Latham.  Survivors, family member and friends are welcome.  Caring Together Too, a support group for newly diagnosed women, meets on the third Monday of each month at the To Life location in Delmar.

Slide for the Cure

Tube ParkOn a beautiful Sunday afternoon in March, West Mountain in Queensbury sponsored  Slide for the Cure.  Proceeds from the afternoon’s fun at West Mountain’s Tubing Park were donated to area ovarian cancer support groups.  Caring Together, the ovarian cancer support group in the Capital Region, and Rays of Hope, the ovarian cancer support group in the North Country, received over $3700 from the event.

Throughout the afternoon volunteers from Caring Together and Rays of Hope displayed their large ovarian cancer quilt and distributed information about the symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in women.
